A happy hour learning how to use freezer paper for applique! It’s one of those techniques we’re probably all aware of, but how many of us have actually tried?!
We’ll decorate a good sized tote-bag so that we can put all of our show purchases in, or should that be ‘some of our show purchases in’?!! If it’s not quite finished you’ll have a bag to take the bits home in for finish off your designs.
Jules will show you how to make these fun embellishments, which you will then use to decorate a mini pillow scented with lavender grains. Jules will also show you other inspirational design ideas, fabrics will vary and printed instructions and templates will be provided.

Redwork is a very popular embroidery traditionally using red thread, chosen because red dyes were the first commercially available colourfast dye and called turkey red. Redwork stitches are composed of simple stitches such as backstitch or outline stitching.
All materials and equipment wil be provided, and the design will already be transferred onto the fabric, so all you have to do is enjoy some mindful, slow stitching.
This is suitable for complete novices upwards.
Inspired by Hokusai's famous wave and using a sashiko inspired stitching technique on upcycled denim, you will embroider a serene seascape with different weights of cotton thread in this one-hour workshop. Perfect for beginners and seasoned stitchers alike, this workshop offers relaxation, creativity, and the chance to craft a unique piece of art.
Jules will guide you through constructing this fun seasonal make using felt and glitter fabric you will learn how to construct an adjustable pincushion wristlet. Hand sewing techniques will be used to construct this useful project, although some finishing may be needed at home. Materials and instruction included .
In this hour workshop, you will make an ingenious wee needle/thread roll where you can line up your pre-threaded needles on the needle tongue and when you need a threaded needle, you just take the end needle and pull at the thread that is fitting into the end case and cut the desired length. You have a threaded needle, and you still have the thread going through the eyes of the other needles, ready for when you next need a threaded needle! A brilliant (& essential tool) to have in your hand sewing box. They make great gifts as well.

Join Orna for an hour of creativity, sustainability and the joy of giving new life to old materials.
Enter the world of “Sunbonnet Sue” under the guidance of Jules Mayouf. Jules will show you how to transfer template designs to create this enduring motif – and use raw edges applique to create this patchwork block.
Everyone in Lynn’s class will receive a prepared square of fabric with a sweet little applique house bond-a-webbed to it, and you will then stitch around the block using Aurifil 12 wt threads to draw attention to the features of the little house.
Join talented embroiderer Thérèse Kelly from Haas Crafts in this hour long class and embroider on Irish linen the beautiful little row of white daisies. Therese will share her skills to ensure that you will create this gem ready for framing when you get home.
Wool felt is used to make Christmas poinsettias which can then be used to
embellish wall hangings, napkins, placemats or napkin holders. The
different elements of the project are cut from the 100% wool felt, and
embroidery stitches are used to embellish the wool felt. The elements can be appliquéd onto the background to make festive seasonal projects.
Using an open weave canvas and a mixture of fabric and yarn you will create a new woven fabric – this sturdy fabric can then be used to make many different items such as placemats, trivets, hot pads , bags – the list is endless. Jules will have the special hooking tool you will use during the class and provide a variety of textiles – no prior knowledge is needed. Sell out tutor Lynn is back this year to teach three classes at Quilt Fayre 2024. In Lynns first class she will be teaching how to make a beautiful and useful needle blanket, it is made using a pre-felted background, and the class will include applique and some basic embroidery stitches. This is a perfect addition to your sewing basket, or as a gift for a friend. Please note needles are not included and additional kits will be available on the day.
Shadow applique fun
We’ll be producing a simple panel using this versatile, traditional technique (with an Abbie twist of course!!) ready for you to make up into your own choice of item at home. We’ll be using fabulous florals – including many liberty prints, onto a printed background, then stabilizing with organza and stitch!
There will be a handout explaining the process so that you can complete or repeat the workshop at your leisure.

Traditionally Dilly Bags were carried by indigenous women in Australia while gathering food. Our modern day felt Dilly Bags is used to gather your sewing supplies instead. During the class you will learn a variety of wool felt applique techniques and different embroidery stitches to embellish your bag. Materials and supplies provided.

Jules will show you how to create these little cuties. Onc you have made one, you’ll want to make more. Using a template to cut out pieces which you will hand sew together int a 3-D Shape. Complete the figure with toy stuffing and button. Jules will also give you tips on how to adapt the pattern to give a variety of uses. Fabric will vary, template and instructions included
Come along and learn how to make this beautiful and useful scissor pouch. It is made using a pre-felted background, with applique and some basic embroidery stitches. A perfect addition to your sewing basket, or as a gift for a friend. Please note scissors are not included. Additional kits will be available on the day.
Something a little different, join Jules who will guide you through this traditional knotting technique that was originally used to secure pearls in Jewelry. This method can be adapted for use with a variety of beads. During this class you will use a mixture of beads to create a simple bracelet. All threading materials and beads will be provided.
Join Thérèse for her second workshop at Quilt Fayre this year and spend an hour hand stitching a beautiful little wildflower meadow usins a variety of embroidery stitches. With a background of Irish Linen this will become a treasured piece of your own work.
Jules will introduce you to this delightful embroidery techique and guide you through forming a ruffle ribbon flower, spider rose and French knot. You will produce a small sample piece during class and Jules will also provide you with inspiration for further projects. Basic hand sewing ability is needed for this class.
This will be a “hands on” class involving paper, fabric, glue, needles and thread. Join Margaret’s class to learn the basics that will enable you to create a unique memorabilia journal. Margaret will give a quick demonstration of how to make your fabric covered journal, and then you will spend time creating some insert pages. Projects to be finished at home. All materials, papers, glues will be provided, bring a sewing kit and some offcuts of fabrics, lace, ribbon, buttons that are cluttering up your sewing space. Making a mess is mandatory.
The latest trend is to ‘paint’ your fabric using Inktense or watercolour pencils and then embroider around the painting to bring it to life. ‘Painting’ is a loose term, as it is actually colouring in due to having a template to colour. So, basically, if you enjoy colouring in, then you will love this craft. This technique is so very simple to master, and you do not have to be an artist to create masterpieces. In this workshop, you will learn the tips & methods used to colour your designs which can then be finished off with simple Redwork stitches at your leisure.

We’ll be making a usable sample of Japanese Folded Patchwork – a coaster is always a good way to test a technique! The template that I’ve designed makes it so much easier than traditional methods and makes it a portable sewing project. I make ‘units’ where others would probably make hexi’s – it’s a fabulous way to use up odds n sods from the stash!......or perfect reason to buy supplies!!!
During this hexie class, Esther will show you how to create an English Paper Piecing (EPP) hexia and how to join them together. You will be able to choose a kit to begin in class and Esther will walk you through each step of the project. If you don’t get finished in class, you can finish the project at home with the instructions provided. Please bring a little sewing kit (including scissors) with you to this class. All fabrics will be provided.

In this hands on class Gai will show you how to make this felt pear shaped pin cushion, perfect to keep your pins in hand reach. Working with her signature wool felt, in bright and cheerful colors, Gai will guide you through the process from selecting the felt, embroidery techniques to stuffing and finishing your pin cushion.
